About

Welcome…I’m so glad you have arrived.

I am a climate citizen, and since you have found your way to this site I suspect you may be one too!

What is a climate citizen? By my definition, a climate citizen is simply one who is committed to supporting and implementing solutions to the climate crisis.

I have been very engaged in environmental issues throughout my life, ever since I participated in organizing the very first Earth Day at my high school in 1970! Now I am motivated to do all I can to help address the most important environmental issue of our time, climate change or, more accurately, the climate crisis.

I am a historian by training and an educator by profession. With a Ph.D. in Architectural and Urban History and many years of teaching at both college and high school levels, my goal now is to use my research skills to provide you with ideas and information for practical solutions to our predicament.

I will be sharing micro solutions that you can consider implementing at home. I will also be discussing macro solutions that you can support in your community, your state, even your nation. We need to be working at every scale possible, all at the same time, to meet the challenge and avoid the worst-case scenarios of climate change. And we need to be working on solutions to mitigate the impacts we are already experiencing.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, I have lived in Los Angeles for many years. In response to the extreme drought here, I have turned my garden into a haven for native plants. As a result I have been rewarded with so many birds, bees, and butterflies, all enjoying the native habitat! I am also working to wean myself from fossil fuel energy sources and appliances, starting with solar panels that take advantage of our plentiful LA sunlight. I will be sharing these and other home projects among my micro solutions. For macro solutions, I will be looking at larger scale issues from the local to the global scale. There is inspiration everywhere…great people are doing great things. I want you to know about them and be inspired.

So stay tuned and come back soon for more blog posts and the latest on what we as climate citizens can do!
